The Bradford Municipal Library, under the authority of its Board of Trustees, strives to provide the best possible resources and services to fulfill the educational, cultural, personal development, social and recreational needs of the community. In its efforts to enhance the quality of life in Bradford and serve the residents in the information age, the Bradford Municipal Library has established the following goals:

Library Services

Adult Services

The adult services department, located on the second floor, is the place to obtain a library card, check out and return your library materials, reserve museum passes and to place your name on the waiting list for the latest best-seller. Readers advisory service is also available, look for changing book displays and booklists on various subjects.

Information about your Library Card including:

Reference Services

Reference Librarians are on duty at all times to assist the public with locating information on a range of topics including business, the law, medicine, consumer information, school assignments, local history, and recreational reading. Inquiries may be made in person or by phone.

Services available in the Reference Department, including:

Young Adult Services

Serving the needs of 12-18 year olds, the Young Adult Department of the Bradford Municipal Library is located on the second floor of the building. The young adult collection consists of popular paperbacks, fiction, and non-fiction useful to school assignments and young adult issues. Young adults are encouraged to be actively involved in the decision making process, which includes working with other youth-serving agencies in Bradford to provide a community-wide network of services that support a healthy development.

Children's Services

The Children's Room offers a variety of services and activities for our younger population. They offer stories hours, babysitting classes, a summer reading program and other special activities. Children under 12 can get their own library card with a parent's signature. Staff is available to assist parents and children in locating library material.

Technical Services Department

The Technical Services Department, although away from the public view, plays a very direct role in the library. This is where orders for books and videos are placed for the Bradford Library. When the books arrive they must be checked in, processed, catalogued, and entered into the database. With electronic ordering this often enables books to be ordered and placed on the library's shelves within a few days. Worn books that are still useful but in need of repair are sent to the Technical Services Department for mending, and outdated books are withdrawn. The Technical Services Department is staffed by two full time and two part time employees.

About your library card

Anyone is welcome to use the Bradford Municipal Library. To borrow library materials, patrons must register for a library card or present the library card from the public library in the community where they reside. To obtain a library card you must present printed identification showing your name and current address. Parents or guardians may show I.D. when registering children. There is no minimum age limit and no requirement that children can read or write their name. Patrons who have come to the library without their card may borrow material by showing printed identification with their name and address.

Your card may also be used at other public libraries in Massachusetts and at some academic libraries. The Bradford Municipal Library also honors library cards from other Massachusetts libraries.
